Why have we specialised in FMCG Supply Chains?
Borrowing Supply Chain Management techniques from the assembly industry has not worked well – because the FMCG industry is structurally and economically different.

The overwhelming bulk of manufacturing and supply chain management techniques have arisen in the assembly, and especially the automotive industry. MRP II, CIM, JIT, Lean manufacturing – they all arose from the excellent work done by Orlicky, Ohno, Deming and others in and around the Automotive business.

BUT, when these techniques are mapped into the Food and Drink or FMCG industries, they often fail to yield the same benefits that their original sector gained. This is simply because the FMCG industry is different, in important respects, and these techniques are founded on implicit assumptions – which are not valid in FMCG.
